The U.S. Department of Education announced recently that the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans met at the U.S. Capitol “to review strategic goals and discuss its progress to date. The commission will also learn about any new federal or Department of Education priorities and initiatives impacting the learning and development of African American students of all ages.”

The Clark County Black Caucus is hosting their 10th Annual Education Forum & African American Student Summit in partnership with Clark County School District on October 26th at 6:00 p.m. at Canyon Springs High School. The President’s Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans and Ebony Magazine will co-host the event.  We are pleased that Executive Director, David Johns will be joining us once again to share with us White House priorities and opportunities for Black student achievement.
Last February, over 125 students had the opportunity to engage local elected officials during the first student summit.  Those discussions helped to inform legislators during the Nevada legislative session about education policy impacting them in school, and is reflected in current legislation.
The community will learn more about the many programs and changes to education at this event, better define expectations, and have the opportunity to interact with decision makers.  For more information visit www.CCBlackCaucus.com
